Georgia Road Transportation in HO Scale is a prototype freelance concept that is been in the works for nigh on twenty years. This site is designed for like-minded individuals who are drawn to journey the road less traveled and create something from nothing using the barebones framework of the prototype railroading world. This is very much a “what if” idea, creating subtle (and sometimes not so subtile) changes to history to create a different chain of events and then model it. The framework plan is to feature a multimedia story that draws the viewer inside and promote the prototype freelance aspect of the hobby.
The scope of this endeavor is to document ideas, plans and the journey as the Georgia Road concept springs from the prototype world of modern railroad practice to the “what if” that makes it distinctly original but plausible. If the Georgia Road seems just a little too real to the reader, then the effort is a success.
The Georgia Road is a prototype freelance railroad concept that will eventually become a layout in HO Scale, Lord willing and I live to finish what I started. The concept is modern and set loosely in current railroading times. It is a conglomeration of years of researching prototypes both current and fallen coupled with an attraction of creating a world in the conceptualized image. The journey is long and convoluted. This is a hobby, and is not my first or only love, though it is one of the longest running interests of a lifetime. Despite all the struggle for fidelity, it is not taken too seriously. The major tenant is to have fun in the hobby, give inspiration as it has been given to me and answer a life-long dream of creating a hypothetical world in an operating model form in HO Scale. This is primarily a lone wolf endeavor in the physical creation and construction. There are no model railroad clubs near here, and my job and family cares limit my machinations into months-long dry spells followed by bursts of activity. The lone wolf attempt does not in any way disparage the dozens of people with whom I have interacted and who have given me ideas and useful feedback on the concept. These individuals that sit through my long and detailed texts, emails and conversations are key to keeping ideas fresh, pertinent and mature. They help me become at least somewhat pragmatic and focused.
